What is a custom plexiglass AC Panel?

A plexiglass AC panel is a custom-made cover that is designed to fit over your existing window, with a hole covering to allow your AC adapter to vent properly. It’s made from plexiglass, a lightweight and durable material also referred to as acrylic.

Plexiglass AC panels are used to improve the efficiency of air conditioning units by preventing cool air from escaping through gaps around the unit. They also help to improve the airflow by forcing air through the AC unit and out through the vents, resulting in better air quality and a more comfortable living environment.

Measuring Your Window

To measure your window for a custom plexiglass AC panel, follow these steps:

For a casement window or a swing-out window, open the window and measure the height and width of the open area. Your plexiglass panel will sit around the edge of your window frame so you’ll want to add 0.5” to 1” to your measurement for both the height and width as this will be the area that your velcro will go to create a tight temporary seal for your panel.

If you have handles or other obstructions, we can cut notches around them so they don’t interfere with the plexiglass panel. Simply measure the location you’ll need the notch cut. Download our AC Panel Measuring guide, complete with templates. Let us know the width and height of the notch.

Casement or Swing-out Window. Measure the height and width of the opening of the window. Add a 0.5” to 1” margin around the perimeter of the frame to allow for Velcro to be added to your window frame and your plexiglass panel. If you have a handle in the way, we can cut notches in your plexiglass panel as shown. Please also indicate the location of the notch you’d like cut.

For a sliding window, you can add a partial plexiglass panel. Open your sliding window to the size you’d like your plexiglass panel to be.

Find the height by measuring from inside the top track to the window frame edge on the bottom. It’s important not to measure inside the track at the bottom of your piece since it will make your panel too large for your window.

Now that you have your measurements, place your order online by selecting your window layout (horizontal or vertical), and selecting the smaller of your two dimensions from the drop-down menu. For example, if your window is 22” W x 49” H, you’ll select the 18” to 23” range from the drop-down menu.

Once your order is placed, bring in your AC adapter so we can match the cut-out on to your custom plexiglass panel.
